Sue Booker

Sue Booker is an Australian painter whose main theme is portraying forbidden aspects of women's sexuality, emotions and fantasy lives. What I like most about Sue's work is that she freely paints unconventional images which can explore eroticism, taboos and archetypal possession and one is open to play with the elements of what her paintings mean. In her own words Sue's paintings are “Self portraits”, in the sense that they reflect diverse parts of the self, whether these happen to be male, female, subhuman or divine. Sue understands art as an “Alchemical transformation in herself.” In each work the viewer is invited to be liberated on the various themes occurring. Sue's work explores human experience pushed to the extremes and the integration of the polarities between the sexual and the spiritual.

Sue’s work is especially influenced by Greek mythology and psychology, - Jung’s theory of archetypes is integral to her vision. Sue is also influenced by fifteenth century painter Hieronymous Bosch, old fashioned fairytale illustrations and traditional tarot cards.

Queen of CupsSue has studied at East Sydney Technical College, Alexander Mackie and Sydney College of The Arts. She had three solo exhibitions in 1996 at the Gallery Cafe, The Green Iguana and Bayswater Fitness Centre. She has also been a successful astrologist and has just finished her first novel.
